UPDATE: OUPD charges student for sexual imposition

UPDATE ON FEB. 26, 2016 @ 3:18 A.M.The Ohio University Police Department has charged an OU student with one count of sexual imposition after a crime alert for the incident went out earlier this week.OUPD charged Michael A. Conti, a 19-year-old resident of the Cleveland suburb of University Heights, according to a press release sent out on Thursday. His initial court appearance is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on March 7 at the Athens County Municipal Courthouse.Sexual imposition is a third-degree misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of 60 days in jail and a $500 fine, according to Thursday’s press release.-Austin LinfanteORIGINAL POSTED ON FEB. 24, 2016 @ 1:31 A.M.At approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Ohio University Police Department issued another campus-wide crime alert.This week’s crime alert was for another gross sexual imposition incident.According to the report, the victim described the perpetrator as approximately 5-foot-11, white, between 19 and 20 years old and with a lean build. He had short, dirty-blonde hair, was clean-shaven and was possibly wearing a grey crewneck sweatshirt.The event, which was reported earlier Tuesday, occurred Feb. 18 at approximately 12:30 a.m. when the victim was walking down Morton Hill toward South Green. An unknown man approached her and initiated conversation. Once the two reached Stewart Street and N. McKinley Ave., the man attempted to kiss her and then grabbed her breast.She fought him off and escaped on foot. There were no injuries reported, and the case is under investigation by OUPD.This case of gross sexual imposition follows last week’s reported case, in which a similar imposition occurred near Oxbow Trail underneath Richland Ave. The incidents were four days apart.OUPD reminded the campus in the crime alert that sexual contact without permission is a crime. The alert also advised individuals to avoid walking alone, if possible.The police department asks that anyone with information report it to OUPD by calling 740-593-1911.
