Multiple cars’ tires slashed on High and Mound Street

Residents on High and Mound Street woke up this morning to a not-so-funny April Fools Day-like scene. To their surprise and disappointment, the tires of 17 different vehicles had been slashed.
Most of the cars had tires slashed on the passenger side, the side closest to the sidewalk on High and Mound Street respectively.
High Street resident and Ohio University junior pre-law student studying political science and sociology-criminology, Grace Good, was one of the unlucky few who had their car tires popped.
“I had to call my roommates, who are away in Nashville on a networking trip, to get their information for the police and tell them that their tires had been slashed too,” Good said. “They genuinely thought it was an April Fools Day prank and that I was joking.”
Good said she thinks the incident occurred somewhere between 3 and 5 a.m. because a neighbor’s Ring doorbell camera had recorded one of the cars slowly lowering as the tires deflated around that time. However, the camera did not capture any suspects.
“It really sucks that we don’t have a face to the case because this isn’t funny and everyone is pretty mad,” Good said.
Police reports have been filed with the Athens Police Department for each car. When asked for comment, an APD officer stated that per their policy they weren’t permitted to speak on anything but did say that they are looking into the situation.
“We just want people to be aware of the situation, because it isn’t an April Fools joke, and to tell the police if they know anything about who might have done this,” Good said.
