Ohio U moves classes online for remainder of spring semester

Ohio University announced Friday its plans to move all instruction online at all locations for the remainder of spring semester amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to a statement from the university.

Students with meal plans and those who live in residence halls will receive a form of reimbursement — the details of which have not been released, according to the university's statement. 

Those who live in residence halls are expected to not return to campus until after spring break. Dates for students to move out will be forthcoming from the Division of Student Affairs, according to the statement.

Students who are unable to move out of their residence halls, including student staff, have the option to apply with Housing and Residence Life to stay. The requirements to remain in a residence hall are unclear.  

Classes are set to resume online beginning March 23 after spring break. “Our collective goal is to continue to provide the highest quality educational experience possible under extraordinary circumstances,” the statement said.

No coronavirus cases have been reported on Ohio U’s Athens campus or any regional campuses as of Friday, and the risk of virus transmission on campus is believed to be low. Those who are ill were instructed to not come to campus.

Several other public universities in the state also on Friday moved instruction online for the remainder of the semester, including Kent State University, Miami University and the University of Toledo.
