Ohio U cancels summer study abroad and domestic programs

Ohio University canceled all university-related domestic and international summer study abroad programs Friday, citing travel advisories related to the coronavirus pandemic likely won’t decrease in time for students’ planned travel, according to the Office of Global Opportunities (OGO).

The cancellation also includes travel with third-party providers and other global experiences, according to a statement from the university. OGO is working to evaluate whether fall semester study abroad and domestic programs will be possible.

The decision to cancel summer programs was made early in coordination with a public health official to give students ample time to arrange alternative plans, according to an email sent to all students scheduled to participate in university-sponsored travel this summer.

OGO is working with the Office of the Bursar to refund students who paid a deposit for a program, which students should expect to receive in their personal accounts as credit within the next few weeks.

Students who purchased airfare are encouraged to contact airlines or travel providers as soon as possible and cite the Ohio U travel restrictions as a reason to cancel their reservations.
