Athens bank reportedly robbed by man with firearm

The Athens Police Department has yet to release new information on Thursday's bank robbery, but here's what we know so far. 

At around 11:15 a.m. Thursday, a man entered The Citizens Bank off of Stimson Avenue and “jumped the counter, threatening employees with what appeared to be a dark colored handgun,” according to a police report released by the Athens Police Department that night.  After the robbery, the suspect fled west on foot. Video footage from the area identifies a possible suspect vehicle as “a dark colored 2007-2011 Nissan Versa with an unknown license plate.”[AdSense-A]Police released an updated suspect description Thursday night, that describes the suspect as “a white male... wearing a red or pink hat and what appeared to be a skin tight light tan mask with dark glasses over top and a dark colored jacket with a red color. He appears to also have on gloves with some sort of design on the back of the hand.”  [divider style="shadow" top="30" bottom="30"]The Citizens Bank off of Stimson Avenue was robbed this morning, reportedly with a firearm.  Police reports describe the suspect in the robbery as “wearing a mask, pink ball cap, sunglasses, dark blue jacket, with a shaved head in back.  Possibly white male, medium build, 5'6" and carrying a zipper bank bag.”  The suspect is also reported to have gotten into a dark sedan.[AdSense-A]Police urge members of the community to not engage with the suspect if spotted.  They should instead dial 911. The OHIO Alert system was activated after this robbery to inform students, residents and faculty of the ongoing situation.  At this time, the Athens Police Department could not be reached for further comment.  The Citizens Bank currently remains closed, and it is not known when it will re-open.If you spot suspicious activity, call 911.
