Obama: 'It moves forward because of you'

“It moves forward because of you.” said President Barack Obama in his victory speech last night.

While Obama did secure a second term, it is interesting to note that he is the first re-elected president in history to win a second term with less electoral votes than he received in his previous election.

Nonetheless, after Obama’s inspirational speech and his large crowd of enthusiastic supporters’ emotional display last night, they have a different view for the direction of the country.

During his speech, Obama highlighted the accomplishments of the last four years, including a recovering economy and wars that are ending.

In addition, Obama set the stage for the next four years.

Not only did Obama say he wants to work across the partisan lines to bring about real reform, but also bringing down the debt and becoming energy independent are milestones that he wants to accomplish.

“We want our children to live in an America that isn’t burdened by debt, that isn’t weakened by inequality,” said Obama.

In a more somber setting at Republican Headquarters, Romney had similar ideas to the president when it comes to getting this country back on the right track.

“Our leaders have to reach across the aisle to do the people's work,” said Romney.

Romney also said that it’s time for elected officials on all levels to put the welfare of the people in front of politics as usual.

Like Romney, Obama received well over 60 million votes and he stated that he was elected to focus on the jobs of those who elected him and not his own.

An underlying theme throughout the president’s speech was the sense of optimism. On multiple occasions in his speech, Obama said he is hopeful for the future of America.

The president, with a cathartic ending to his speech, said that as long as we have courage to keep working and fighting something better is waiting for this country.

At the end, Obama delivered a line that perhaps received the loudest ovation saying, “We are greater than the sum of our individual ambitions, and we remain more than a collection of red states and blue states. We are and forever will be the United States of America.”

Now with the election behind this country, if Obama does what he has promised this country according to him and in the prayers of many Americans will hopefully go in one direction -- forward.
