Isaac Davis reinstated as vice president of the Student Senate
Last night Isaac Davis was reinstated as vice president of the Ohio University Student Senate. He had been voted out a week prior during a vote of no-confidence. The reasons for his reinstatement were “irregularities in voting” according to the Student Senate judicial panel.
The reaction to Davis’s reinstatement was mixed. Some members expressed sympathy for Davis, specifically how he had been treated after being removed. Additionally, some members spoke out about how they have been treated for associating with Davis.
“This is all simply for being associated with one person,” said Commissioner Ayshni Tandon in reference to what she described to be harassment. She added, “Gossiping is not how you solve these problems.”
Davis also felt that the vote for his removal was unfairly influenced.
“Many senators have come forward and shared the ways in which executive members have relentlessly and maliciously spread defamatory statements about me this entire academic year,” Davis said.
On the other hand, some members felt this was taking away the voice of the Senate.
“By reversing our vote of no confidence because of irregularities with no proof, you have taken away my voice as a student and as a member of this body,” said Senator Colton Gibbs-Dunlap.
Additionally, some believe that this is an overreach on the part of university faculty.
“This body demands answers to what irregularities occur during the vote, followed by a proper investigation by the judicial panel,” said Commissioner Dan Gordillo. “And not faculty meddling in student affairs.”
Towards the end of his statement, Gordillo added; “To the powers that be: do you want a government, or do you want zombies?”
