Kiandra Martin sworn in as Student Senate’s next vice president

After the trial and removal of former Treasurer and President-Elect Reagan Farmer in a previous meeting, Ohio University Student Senate held a special meeting to fill the vacant role of vice president. This vacancy occurred due to the Senate’s succession laws of its Rules and Procedures (Chapter 2 Section 7), which state that the winning vice-presidential candidate would assume the role of president following the removal of the prior president, meaning Vice President-Elect Dan Gordillo assumed the presidency. 

Two candidates, Kiandra Martin and Luke Vannus, were nominated for the role of vice president and each candidate was able to address Senate, answering several questions from other senate members. After the questioning concluded, the vote was held, and with a plurality of eight votes, Martin was elected and sworn in as Senate’s next vice president. 

“I'd like to say thank you,” Martin said. “I have been through a lot in the past few weeks regarding the Senate and I am happy to see it all come to an end. Again, I thank you for your support and I'm gonna take the summer and really knock out this position.” 

Additionally, Senate passed a resolution appointing Executive Justice Grace Jarchow as Chief Justice for the 2024-2025 academic year.
