The Ohio University Student Senate voted on Senator Emeritus and Senior Honors recipients Wednesday night during its second-to-last meeting of the semester.

Senators Janie Peterson, Allison Shryock, Benjamin Carman and Hunter Graffice were all nominated for both awards because of their work as senior senators. Senators Justin Fink, Cali Leasure, Adam Boesinger and Makayla Fritinger were nominated for Senior Honors. Senator Casey Hall-Jones was nominated for Justice Emeritus.

Senator Emeritus and Senior Honors are awards given to students who have gone above and beyond during their tenure as a senator and have had a lasting impact on the university. This impact could be through legislation they have created, work they have done within their positions or commissions or the mark they have left on others.

“Senior Honors is an award that alumni and some students who are not graduating on the Senator Emeritus and Senior Honors Committee award to someone who has gone above and beyond during their role on Student Senate,” Senator Emeritus Jonathon Schlosser said.

Senators and Senator Emeriti alumni were encouraged to speak up about why they thought each nominee was deserving of their designated awards. All nominees received majority votes in favor of their nominations and will receive their awards later this month.

Treasurer Becky Ivan also presented the Senate’s expenditure report for the spring semester.

Of the $8,659.55 of Senate funds allocated to this years’ expenditures, only $656.81 has been spent. A majority of the spent money went toward the Senate’s website and supplies for Pride Week. The remaining money will go toward gift cards for Keep it Local winners, a plaque for the winner of the Senate’s food drive and honors and emeritus awards. Senate has $60,841.97 total in funds for next semester.

In other business:

  • ALLIES will be holding an open forum Thursday night at 7 p.m. on advocacy and allyship at Ohio U via Teams. Anyone interested in attending can contact Senator Luvina Cooley.
