Ohio U Student Trustees visit Student Senate

At Wednesday’s meeting, Ohio University Student Senate received campus updates from Student Trustees Mia Citino and Sarah Ladipo. The body also passed four resolutions which ranged from budgeting for Ohio’s Student Government Summit to two appointments. 

Citino and Ladipo gave their updates to the senate regarding the Board of Trustees and other recent activities. The student trustees mentioned how they serve on a number of other committees, one of those being the Center for Student Legal Services (CSLS) board of directors. In their recent January meeting with the CSLS board of directors, the student trustees were able to hear from a variety of students, including student athletes and finance students. 

The student trustees also noted the growing diversity and inclusion in the College of Fine Arts along with improvement to many of their facilities. 

“There are currently $16 million in philanthropic funds and capital improvements earmarked towards the renewal of some of their facilities in their building. They have an architectural firm that is going to be completing a plan for that money, and we’ll be getting that plan in the spring” Citino said. 

Citino also mentioned the $3 million Ohio U was awarded through the Intel Semiconductor Education and Research Program for the Ohio Builders Program. The goal of this program is to “accelerate readiness and enable the workforce needed for operations of semiconductor fabrication facilities in the state of Ohio,” said Citino.  

Additionally, the search for a new student trustee is also now in the process. Applications are due Monday, February 13th, the application can be found online through Ohio U’s Board of Trustees website.

Senate then proceeded with their regular meeting proceedings, including passing four resolutions unanimously. 

The two appointment resolutions passed. One resolution appointed Caleb Alamo as director of students defending students and the other appointed Ayomide Ayorinde as minority affairs senator. 

A resolution passed that canceled the April 19 Student Senate General Body meeting to allow members to attend the Leadership Awards. 

Finally, a resolution unanimously passed to purchase transportation, registration and hotel rooms for the Ohio Student Government Summit. The total budget agreed upon for the summit trip was $2,844.25.
