Election 2020: Athens County Race Results
Editor's Note: These are unofficial Election Night totals and do not include provisional ballots.
Democrat Charlie R. Adkins defeated Republican Bill Hayes for Athens County Commissioner, with 62.60% voting for Adkins and 37.40% voting for Hayes.
Democrat Chris Chmiel, who ran unopposed, remains an Athens County Commissioner, and 16,987 voters voted for Chmiel, while the rest of the voters voted for write-in candidates or withheld from voting.
Democrat Keller J. Blackburn, who ran unopposed, remains Athens County Prosecuting Attorney, and 16,677 voters voted for Blackburn, while the rest of the voters voted for write-in candidates or withheld from voting.
Democrat Candy S. Russel, who ran unopposed, remains on the Athens County Clerk of Court of Common Pleas, and 17,182 voters voted for Russel, while the rest of the voters voted for write-in candidates or withheld from voting.
Democrat Rodney Smith, who ran unopposed, remains the Athens County Sheriff, and 18,428 voters voted for Smith, while the rest of voters voted for write-in candidates or withheld from voting.
Democrat Jessica Markins, who ran unopposed, remains Athens County Recorder, and 17,003 voters voted for Markins, while the rest of the voters voted for write-in candidates or withheld from voting.
Democrat Ric Wasserman, who ran unopposed, remains Athens County Treasurer, and 17,012 voters voted for Wasserman, while the rest of voters voted for write-in candidates or withheld from voting.
Democrat Jeff Maiden, who ran unopposed, remains Athens County Engineer, and 17,343 voters voted for Maiden, while the rest of the voters voted for write-in candidates or withheld from voting.
Democrat Carl Ortman, who ran unopposed, remains the Athens County Coroner, and 17,624 voters voted for Ortman, while the rest of voters voted for write-in candidates or withheld from voting.
Democrat Pat Lang, who ran unopposed, remains as a judge on the general Court of Common Pleas, and 16,119 voters voted for Lang, while the rest of the voters voted for write-in candidates or withheld from voting.
Democrat Zachary Saunders defeated Republican Kenneth Ryan in the race for a judgeship on the Probate/Juvenile Athens County Court of Common Pleas, with 60.01% voting for Saunders and 39.39% voting for Ryan.
The Issues
Issue 1, a City of Athens proposed municipal income tax, passed. 72.52% of voters voted for the income tax, while 27.48% of voters voted against the income tax.
Issue 24, an Athens County proposed sales tax and use tax, passed with 52.71% of voters voting yes and 47.29% of voters voting no.
