The Ohio University Student Senate officially began its 2020-2021 Senate session during its first general body meeting Wednesday night.

The Senate appointed Soren Starkey as an associate justice to the Student Senate Judicial Panel. Walter Milhoan, chief justice emeritus of the panel, spoke highly of Starkey.

“I have the fullest confidence that the acting chief justice was right in putting this resolution forward, and I encourage you all to approve it,” Milhoan said.

He also asked more students to apply for associate justice positions.

While Senate operations have commenced for the academic year, many positions remain vacant, including chief of staff and public relations director.

Jason Pina, Vice President of Student Affairs and the Student Senate faculty adviser, congratulated the students who won the recent Senate election, but highlighted a need for more student participation in the Senate.

“I know that over the next several weeks a few of you will work really hard to fill out the rest of the Student Senate so we can have a body full of folks representing every college and all student interests as it relates to Ohio University,” Pina said.

Senator positions are still open for many Ohio U colleges. Applications can be found on Bobcat Connect.
