Biden sweeps Ohio primary after delayed election

Former Vice President Joe Biden has won the Ohio Democratic presidential primary.
Biden finished with 72.4% of votes cast and 96 pledged delegates, with 99% of precincts reporting.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, who suspended his campaign, finished with 16.6% of the votes and 4 pledged delegates. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Michael Bloomberg, Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who also suspended their campaigns, finished in third through sixth place respectively.
In Athens County, Biden beat Sanders 58.9% to 31.1%.
In the Republican primary for Ohio’s 15th Congressional District, Rep. Steve Stivers beat his challenger, political newcomer Shelby Hunt 88.2% to 11.8%. Hunt ran a largely faith-based campaign against the incumbent Stivers.
In the Democratic Primary for OH-15, attorney Joel Newby defeated activist Daniel Kilgore 65.9% to 34.1%. Both Newby and Kilgore are political newcomers as well.
For Athens County Treasurer, incumbent Ric Wasserman defeated Athens City Councilmember Peter Kotses, winning with 61.99% of the vote to Kotes’ 38.01%.
Republican incumbent Jay Edwards and Democratic candidate Katie O'Neill were both uncontested in their primary elections for the 94th district of the Ohio State House.
This year’s primary elections were turbulent, with the original March 17 primary date pushed back by Gov. Mike DeWine and the Director of Ohio Department of Health Amy Acton because of the coronavirus outbreak. Voting was conducted almost entirely by mail.
