Ohio University student tests positive for novel coronavirus

President Duane Nellis announced via email Wednesday that an Ohio University student tested positive for the novel coronavirus after returning from studying abroad.

According to the email sent to students, the student developed symptoms while abroad and tested positive for the virus on March 24. The student is reported to have returned to their Athens residence to self-isolate, while waiting for their test results.

The student has since returned to their permanent residence to self-isolate with family. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends anyone who comes in contact with someone with COVID-19 or suspects that they have it to quarantine for 14 days.

The student returned to Athens following Ohio U’s decision to cancel all semester abroad programs on March 12. Students studying aboard were instructed to return to the U.S. by March 20.
