Housing 'strongly' discourages weekend move-out; room check-out info to come Monday
Ohio University Housing and Residence Life strongly discouraged students from traveling to campus over the weekend to move out of their residence halls. This caution followed the university’s announcement on Friday that all instruction will be online for the remainder of spring semester amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Housing and Residence Life outlined a vague plan in an email sent Friday night that will not require students to check out of their residence halls with a staff member. Instead, each hall’s lobby will have a box of envelopes, pens and instructions for students to finalize their departures.
More detailed instructions regarding the room check-out process are expected to be released to students via email no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, March 16, according to an email from Housing and Residence Life.
All residents are required to check out of their buildings unless they receive approval from Housing and Residence Life to stay on campus, which can be requested here. The requirements to remain in a residence hall are unclear. Students with meal plans and those who live in residence halls will receive a form of reimbursement — the details of which have not been released but are forthcoming, according to the university.
Classes are set to resume online beginning March 23 after Ohio U's extended spring break.
No coronavirus cases have been reported on Ohio U’s Athens campus or any regional campuses as of Saturday morning, and the risk of virus transmission on campus is believed to be low. Those who are ill were instructed to not come to campus.
