The LGBT Center closed Wednesday following the discovery of bedbugs

The LGBT Center had to temporarily move locations Wednesday after an outbreak of bedbugs.[dropcap txtcolor="#234a83"]T[/dropcap]he office space of the LGBT Center in the Baker University Center is currently closed due to bedbugs.Ohio University Environmental Health and Safety received reports of bedbugs in the center on Wednesday. EHS later confirmed the bedbugs’ presence.University Spokesperson Daniel Pittman said the bedbugs appear to be isolated to the LGBT Center, but EHS is planning to perform a canine inspection of the entire Baker University Center. The LGBT Center was temporarily relocated to Baker 341, and it will resume normal hours on Thursday. The LGBT Center’s normal office, Baker 354, is expected to reopen no later than Monday morning, Pittman said.[AdSense-A]EHS is planning to “remediate” the bedbugs on Friday at 10:30 p.m., Pittman said in an email.EHS worked with the Office of Student Affairs and the Office for Diversity and Inclusion to develop a plan to deal with the bedbugs and to relocate students and employees that were affected, Pittman said.Ohio University has an official plan and webpage for bedbug incidents. The plan notes that bedbugs often travel on clothing, and the CDC states that anyone who visited an infected area is at risk for getting bedbugs.The LGBT Center has been the center of controversy after former director delfin bautista was dismissed by Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion Gigi Secuban. A recent audit of bautista showed they used a university credit card to make thousands of dollars of purchases that violated university policy. No specific reasons for bautista's dismissal have been made public.
