University representatives discuss administration’s response to recent sexual misconduct

In their first meeting of the year, Graduate Student Senate appointed new senators and talked to Ohio U administrators about the recent sexual assault cases

[dropcap txtcolor="#234a83" style="dropcap1"]U[/dropcap]niversity officials met with Graduate Student Senate on Tuesday at its first meeting of the year to discuss the university’s response to the recent cases of sexual misconduct on campus.Jenny Hall-Jones, dean of students and senior associate vice president, reassured students that the university is doing everything it can to combat the sudden increase of sexual assault cases on campus. Hall-Jones noted that the university is working with resident assistants to let undergraduates know what their resources are for travel around campus and that the police are increasing their patrols in the affected areas.“This is not the norm,” Hall-Jones said. “We’re doing a lot, but the community needs to come together.”[AdSense-A]The recent reports of sexual misconduct have been cases of “stranger-danger,” Hall-Jones said.“We teach all college students that’s not how sexual assault happens in college,” she said. “Sexual assault happens in college because people are not getting consent, and they’re getting people drunk in order to have sex.”In other business, the Senate appointed Claudia Cisneros as vice president of communications. Cisneros is experienced in television, radio, and online media, and she has worked over 20 years in journalism.Toward the adjournment of the meeting, the senate held a swearing-in ceremony for the over a dozen newly elected graduate students.
