Student Senate president plans to endorse Bridge OHIO ticket

Bridge launched their uncontested platform Monday after Student Senate Chief Justice Walter Milhoan confirmed they were the sole ticket to register.

[dropcap txtcolor="#234a83" style="dropcap1"]S[/dropcap]tudent Senate President Landen Lama announced Tuesday that he plans to support the unopposed Bridge OHIO ticket during the upcoming Student Senate election.Despite his planned endorsement, Lama expressed disappointment in the fact that only one platform registered in time for the election.[AdSense-A]“I really wish I would have seen more students engaged in the election,” Lama said.Student Senate presidential candidate Maddie Sloat claims that the Bridge platform is constructed around building student engagement.“We have worked with the current administration and think that they have done a really great job so far of connecting with the student body, but Student Senate has been in the rebuilding phase in the past several years,” Sloat said. “It has been hard for Student Senate to get visibility and engagement.”Bridge candidates think that the current administration has made progress in terms of student engagement, but they would like to see student engagement become a priority, Sloat said.“The feedback that we have gotten back from the student body is that senate can be a little bit distant,” Sloat said.Bridge launched their uncontested platform Monday after Student Senate Chief Justice Walter Milhoan confirmed they were the sole ticket to register.“As far as I know, this is the first time in Student Senate history that this has happened,” Lama said.While the Bridge ticket is running unopposed, it is still possible for an independent candidate to run a write-in ballot campaign and win a spot on Student Senate, Milhoan said.Student Senate elections are run in-house by the Judicial Panel, and the elections will be held on April 3.
