Graduate Student Senate welcomes new members at first meeting of spring semester
GSS accepted new members and is represented in University’s recommendation on sexual misconduct to the state of Ohio
[dropcap txtcolor="#234a83" style="dropcap1"]G[/dropcap]raduate Student Senate passed one resolution during its Tuesday night meeting, which welcomed new members into the body. GSS also discussed Ohio University’s recommendation for the state of Ohio in handling sexual misconduct. As a result of the introduction of new members, GSS created a commission to initially focus on Ohio U parking for graduate students. New GSS appointee Spencer Cappelli, who is currently representing the Department of Modern Languages, said he joined to advocate for his colleagues that “might feel less represented by our current representatives.”Also at the meeting, GSS developed, in association with Ohio U’s Culinary Services, a meal plan for graduate students with assistantships. The plan, dubbed “Connect 20,” will include 20 meals and is currently available for the spring semester. President Maria Modayil said she was “happy with President Nellis’ dedication to graduate students” in relation to the new plan.Graduate Student Representative Aaron Babcock of the Department of English Literature is a member of Ohio U’s committee for drafting a recommendation on how the state can best combat and treat sexual misconduct. According to Babcock, the large group is comprised mostly of “administrative faculty and staff,” with the intended target audience being “pretty broad.”The meeting, which lasted around an hour, was closed by GSS President Modayil claiming this may be the “first and last time a meeting will be this short.”[divider style="shadow" top="30" bottom="30"]
