11 things Athens County residents will see on the ballot next month

It may not be time to vote in another presidential election or even for any state representatives, but there's still an election coming up on Nov. 7. Here's what you can expect to see on the ballot.

Athens County residents will see the following issues on their ballot this November:

1. The Athens-Hocking-Vinton Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services levy. This levy would supplement the current fund for the operation, acquisition and construction of addiction and mental health facilities.
2. An Athens County levy for the maintenance and operation of the Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
3. An Athens City School levy to fund the district’s operating cost for 10 years at one percent earned income of individuals in the district.
4. An Athens County levy to fund emergency medical service.
5. The Athens Cannabis Ordinance (TACO) is aimed at lowering the punishment for misdemeanor marijuana offenses to the lowest allowed in Ohio.
6. A proposed amendment to the Ohio Constitution called “Rights for Crime Victims” would expand the rights of crime victims and ensure they are treated fairly in the court system.
7. A new requirement that Ohio not pay more for prescription drugs than what is payed by the United States Department of Veteran Affairs.
8. Seven candidates for three seats on the Athens City School Board: Kimberly Goldsberry, Bruce Nottke, Laura Alloway, Paul Grippa, David J. Hayden, Jenny Klein and Sean Parsons.
9. One candidate for a seat on the Athens-Meigs Educational Service Center Governing Board: John Dopey.
10. Five candidates for three seats on the Athens City Council: Democrats Arian Smedley, Sarah Grace and Peter Kotses and Independent candidates Patrick McGee and Noah Trembly.  
11. Three candidates for Township Trustee in Athens Township:  Brian Baker, Steven H. Pierson and Eddie Smith.

Issues in other cities and townships include:

1. City council seats in Nelsonville and Coolville.
2. City council seats in Chauncey and Trimble with no candidates. If no candidates emerge, existing council members will elect people to the seats.
3. Village council seats in Albany and Glouster.    
4. School Board seats in the Nelsonville-York City School District, Alexander Local School District, Federal Hocking Local School District and Trimble Local School District.
5. Election of a new Coolville mayor.
6. Township Trustee seats in Ames Township, Bern Township, Canaan Township, Dover Township, Trimble Township and Waterloo Township.
