Campus Crime: Ma’am, the sidewalk is not a lane
OUPD dealt with a lot this week. There were multiple counts of theft, and a woman drove her car on the sidewalk.
High Crimes
The Ohio University Police Department gave out six citations this week for the possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as additional five citations for the possession of marijuana. The majority of these citations were given out over the weekend.
You Booze, You Lose
Two citations were given out for the possession of fictitious IDs. Interestingly, OUPD received a report of a lost fake ID within East Green, which was placed in a lost and found bin on Sept. 22 at 8:08 a.m. Seven minutes later, a man in Shively Hall was charged for the possession of a fake ID. Coincidence? During the early hours of Saturday, one man was arrested for operating a motor vehicle whilst under the influence.
You Booze, You Still Lose
Keeping with the theme of alcohol-related charges, there were a total of two arrests this past week for Underage Alcohol Consumption. Furthermore, one citation for disorderly conduct as a result of alcohol consumption was given to a man in Parking Lot 120 on Sept. 27 at 8:09 p.m.
Check Yourself Before You Theft Yourself
There were five reports of theft this week, including two reports of fraudulent checks made out to Ohio University. Two other theft reports concerned the theft of wallets on Sept. 21 and Sept. 23, while the last report of theft occurred at Pickering Hall on Sept. 25.
Traffic Incidents
Ohio U saw a fairly average week for traffic violations: stop sign violations, expired permits and minor accidents. However, one incident in particular served as an anomaly. On Stewart Street at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, a woman was issued a citation not only for having an expired vehicle registration, but also for — wait for it — driving on the sidewalk. Traffic around Athens has a tendency to be terrible during these early hours; perhaps this served as her motivation to drive in “the fast lane.”
