Kasich: "DREAMers" can come to Ohio
Ohio Gov. John Kasich spoke out against the Trump administration's plans to phase out DACA during a national television appearance.
"Come to Ohio.” [dropcap txtcolor="#214985"]T[/dropcap]hat’s the message Ohio Gov. John Kasich has for young people affected by the Trump administration’s plans to put an end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.“We want all the immigrants to come to Ohio because we know how much they contribute to America,” Kasich continued. “I wouldn’t be in America if it wasn’t for immigration.”[AdSense-A]Kasich’s comments on Wednesday’s edition of CBS This Morning come after Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Tuesday that Congress has six months to either extend or replace the Obama-era program that provides work permits to about 800,000 individuals who came to the country illegally as children. https://twitter.com/JohnKasich/status/905454740233797632Kasich, who ran a failed bid for the Republican nominee for president in 2016, said that proposed timeframe is too long. “It should take, like, six hours to get this done,” Kasich said Wednesday morning. “They ought to be able to stay here.”Ohio’s governor is not alone in his opposition to the end of DACA. Former President Obama released a statement on Facebook condemning Trump’s plan, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, called the plan to end DACA “heartless” and Attorneys General from 16 states filed a motion in federal court against the planned end of DACA. Locally, Ohio University President Duane Nellis said he planned to travel to Congress to advocate for students at Ohio U who are in the country legally because of DACA. Other university and community members had much to say on Twitter.
