Fishwick to lead OU College Democrats next academic year

Ohio University College Democrats elected its 2017-18 executive staff at its weekly meeting last night. Ashley Fishwick, a sophomore studying English pre-law, was elected president and Levi Brown, a junior studying political science, was elected to vice president.“I’m honestly just most excited to increase our presence on campus, because I know right now a lot of the rallies that have been happening are held by ISO and I really think this campus is such a liberal campus, we really should have a larger presence,” Fishwick said. “I’m just ready to host rallies and get people involved and get other people politically engaged.” Grant Gravagna was elected as political director, Bailey Williams as membership director and Andrew Guidarelli as treasurer. Alex Jackson was also elected as the communications director and Michi Heckler is the new secretary.During Gravagna’s nomination speech, he called Rep. Steve Stivers, R-Ohio, on the spot to voice several of his concerns. He left a voicemail expressing how he was upset that Stivers did not visit Ohio University this semester. With his speech, Williams spoke about incorporating diversity into the Ohio University College Democrats (OUCD). Moreover, Heckler suggested an app for the OUCD’s constitution, group information and events. Sam Miller, the current president, concluded the election by saying, “It’s really been my honor to serve as your president over the last year. The amount of amazing things we’ve done from calling our reps every single day … to registering over 5,700 students to vote on this campus, that is something to be very, very proud of.”
