College Democrats schedule "phone assault" of local representative to protest ACA repeal
Ohio University College Democrats convened Tuesday to discuss its “phone assault” of Rep. Steve Stivers, R-OH 15th District, and its internal and external elections. The OUCD’s “phone assault” is today at 4:30 p.m. and aims to express the group’s concerns about repealing the Affordable Care Act. A similar protest was held at the Athens County Courthouse earlier this week. OUCD Sam Miller and Vice President Eliopoulos also discussed the future of the chapter. Both Miller and Eliopoulos are running for positions in the College Democrats of Ohio. Miller, who is already the organization’s communications director, will be running for vice president. Eliopoulos will be running for communications director. Elections for executive positions are typically scheduled for the week of Feb. 20, but starting this year, they will be extended through the week of March 20. The extension was made to give candidates time to better prepare for their new roles and to give the former officials more time to accomplish the last goals of their term. The discussion of upcoming elections was not limited, however, to just OUCD. With the Athens City Council primaries fast approaching, Councilman Kotses petitioned for signatures from the Democrats.
