OU Crime Watch: OU student arrested for stalking, destruction of property on the rise

An Ohio University student was arrested by OUPD for violating the Civil Stalking Protection Order, and it wasn’t the only instance of harassment, sex offense or assault on campus over the past two weeks. OUPD arrested Wesley Schulte at 7:25 p.m. at Siegfried Hall on the evening of Sept. 20, just a few days after receiving complaints of telecommunications harassment from a different location on campus. The police department continued to deal with sexual-related offenses over the next several days. On Sept. 21, a female student allegedly received unsolicited pornographic images on her email; the case is still under investigation at the time of publication. That same evening, an unknown male allegedly approached and grabbed a female as she was walking into Alden Library in the late evening. Aside from harassment, sex offenses and assaults, OUPD primarily issued citations for crimes related to drugs, alcohol and the destruction of property. In relation to destruction of property, OUPD cited six people for criminal mischief, two for vandalism, one for criminal damaging and seven for criminal trespass; it received four reports of theft. There were also five reports of vehicular damage occurring in lots 41, 50, 104, 128 and 134. The number of people cited for alcohol-related crimes went down over the past two weeks. Four people were cited with underage consumption, two of whom were transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail. Four were cited with disorderly conduct by intoxication, two of whom were transported to SEORJ. OUPD confiscated two fictitious identification cards. Citations related to drug use also dropped, specifically in relation to possession of drug paraphernalia. OUPD cited 12 people with possession of marijuana and only two with possession of drug paraphernalia. Two students requested medical assistance after stating they took LSD and were having a negative reaction to it on Sept. 23. OUPD can be reached at 740-593-2922.
