City Council deals with old busses and windows

City Council met Monday night to unanimously approve four ordinances dealing with the GoBus, a recreational land donation, disposal of glass windows and appropriations.The first ordinance, originally introduced by Council member Michele Papai, D-3rd Ward, will allow for old GoBuses to be “put out to pasture” and their parts to be put up for grabs. The second will allow the city to accept a land donation for recreational use. The land, which is more commonly known as Camp Rotan and is being donated by the Rotary Club of Athens, covers approximately 14 acres.“I think it will expand the city’s recreational opportunities,” said Council member Chris Fahl, D-4th Ward, who introduced the ordinance. “It’s a nice area. I have been contacted by numerous groups that want to continue helping out, and with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, also.”Next, the council approved an ordinance regarding the disposal of green glass windows at ARTS/West. Some of these windows will be used by the Athens County Historical Society as replacement panes.The last ordinance approved was one that was only on its second reading. The council voted to suspend the rules and approve this amendment to the 2016 Appropriation Ordinance.Before the council entered into executive session, ordinances were introduced regarding an agreement with the state to allow for the city’s bridges to be inspected and a revocable license for AEP to install new cables on Factory Street and Riverside Drive. Both of these were discussed briefly at last week’s committee meeting.
