Student Senate Board of Elections announces dates and candidates for upcoming election

The Student Senate Board of Elections announced Monday the dates and candidates for the upcoming Senate election.Two tickets will be vying for control of the Senate. UNITE has 37 candidates running, while Impact has 19 candidates running.The UNITE ticket includes presidential candidate Hannah Clouser, who serves as the current treasurer of the Senate. The vice presidential candidate is Courtney Muhl, current Health Science and Professions senator and the treasurer candidate is Steve Lichtenfels, a Senate Appropriations Commission At-Large senator.The Impact presidential candidate is Jordan Kelley, current University Life Commissioner. This ticket also includes vice presidential candidate Alexis Apparicio, current senator at-large, and treasurer candidate Kiera Fletcher, current Multicultural Greek Representative and Campus Organizations Committee Chair.Nine candidates are also running for senator at-large positions, including four on the Impact ticket and five on the UNITE ticket. SAC Senator candidates include five UNITE candidates and one Impact candidate.The UNITE ticket has no one running against them from the Impact ticket for senators to represent College of Business, Education, Health Sciences and Professions, Engineering and Technology, the Honors Tutorial College, Graduate College, East Green and the Center for International Studies. The Impact ticket runs unopposed for University College Senator.The election begins 8 a.m. on March 29 and ends at 7 p.m. on March 30. Students will receive an email with voting information before the online ballot is accessible to them.Passive campaigning will begin for the candidates on March 10 and will continue until March 16. During this time, candidates cannot attend any meetings with registered student organizations as a candidate, but they can schedule appearances. Additionally, any campaign-related material cannot be on the Web until 20 days before the election.Active campaigning will begin a week later, on March 17. The Senate will hold a total of five debates during this time, including two debates for executive candidates and one debate for each academic college candidate, SAC candidates and each residential Green and off-campus senator candidates.UPDATE: A previous version of this article stated that Impact had 17 candidates running for the election.
