Podcast: Athens Happens - What Airbnb Could Mean For Athens

Athens Happens is a weekly news podcast brought to you by TNP reporters dedicated to explaining the nuances of Athens and state politics.

Listeners can find new episodes every Friday on, iTunesSpotifyYouTubeSoundCloud, or wherever else podcasts can be downloaded.

This week, we discussed a recent forum where community members voiced concerns about a proposed change in city law that would allow short-term rentals — including Airbnb and VRBO — in residential neighborhoods, and, another forum in which Ohio University faculty members examined data on university administrative spending and voiced their desire to protect the jobs of professors and faculty amid a university-wide budget crisis. We also gave an overview of an Ohio U Alumnus who recently announced his bid to challenge U.S. Representative Steve Stivers for his congressional seat in 2020.
